How to hand wash lingerie

As someone who loves to wear lingerie, I am sure you have faced problems with caring for your lingerie. Yes, washing and caring for your lingerie can be very delicate, especially for materials that cannot withstand the pressure that comes with washing due to the nature of the fabric. You prefer to wash your lingerie while washing daily clothes with a machine because why not? It saves stress and time but you need to remember your lingerie can easily get damaged in the rough and tumble of a washing machine.

To maintain the texture and color of your lingerie, there are certain procedures while hand washing them.

Pre-soaking lingerie in lukewarm water and mild detergent

Start by filling up a basin or sink with lukewarm water—nothing too hot or too cold, just right. Add a little splash of mild detergent or specialized lingerie wash and give it a

gentle swirl to mix it all up. Then, it’s time to let your lingerie take a dip. Pop those bras, panties, and delicate pieces into the water and let them soak for 10 to 15 minutes.

Gently wash lingerie

Your hands can gently massage the lingerie using the fingertips to wash any stubborn stains or spots. There is no point in wringing and forcefully washing your lingerie like it is as dirty as if it has never been cleaned. Gently wash your lingerie while still maintaining its texture and color.

Rinse thoroughly in clean water

Fill up your sink or basin with clean, lukewarm water, and give each piece of lingerie a thorough rinse to remove any lingering detergent. You would want to wash off every last trace of soap to avoid any residue that could irritate your skin or cause your lingerie to feel stiff or scratchy. So, give those bras and panties a good swish around in the water, by ensuring you rinse them thoroughly from top to bottom.

Leave it to air-dry

The key is to find a shady spot away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Think indoors near a window or in a well-ventilated room where your lingerie can air dry without exposing to harsh elements. You can lay your delicates flat on a clean towel or drying rack. The air-drying method takes a lot of time so be patient with it, it is worth the process in the long run.

Understanding the process of hand washing your delicate lingerie would save you the hazard of washing your lingerie with a machine. Ensure to put these tips into practice.
